Meal Planning on a Budget

Posted on November 25, 2018January 17, 2021 by KIM@FREETOFAMILY

Meal Planning doesn’t have to be complicated! For me it all starts with a family menu. What is that you ask? Well it is just a list of favorite “tried and true” recipes that I know my family loves and actually asks for. If you want to create a family menu, get your family involved. It is like a recipe rolodex. It is simply a list of meals that everyone loves. Try creating a family menu that you can keep handy for monthly meal planning – it helps with meal ideas and family “buy-in”.

I like to use a monthly white board to do my monthly meal planning from my family menu. I find that meal planning for the month is always easier. I also enjoy using a white board so that I have the flexibility to change things up as I need to.  At the end of the month I look at my family menu and pencil in 3-4 meals every week. I will make some of the meals ahead and separate out or I will make a main dish in a large batch and make it into different easy meals during the week.
