5 Minimalist LIfe Hacks

Posted on November 25, 2019January 17, 2021 by KIM@FREETOFAMILY

Minimalism isn’t about counting items. Minimalism is an extension of intentional living and a tool under the umbrella of intentional living. Intentional living requires one to become aware fundamental beliefs and values and to be willing to make an effort to have our behavior to reflect these beliefs.  Intentional living is made of value based decision making and living=value driven living, Minimalism has a lot to do with the elimination of stuff to clear space and gain clarity and as Joshua Becker puts it so nicely, “Minimalism is the intentional promotion of the things we most value and the removal of anything that distracts us from it.” Intentional living is any lifestyle based on an individual or group’s conscious attempts to live according to their values and beliefs. The key word is ANY. What may be of value to one person based on the season of life they are in, their age, their culture, their beliefs is all relative. Here are 5 Minimalist life hacks to make your life more simple and intentional:

  1. Download a scanner app or buy a scanner—even taking pics and using google drive can help organize paper clutter.
  2. SIMPLIFY cleaning—water and thieves oil
    1. Use bleach or vinegar and water on drains and toilets and sometimes in the kitchen
  3. Limit access!—limit access to consumeristic media outlets such as online shopping, some social media outlets, catalogues, malls, mailing lists, etc.
  4. Look in your closet—
    1. hang all clothes on hangers
    2. turn the hanger around when you use it
    3. at the end of 60 days reevaluate the clothing
      1. do you use it?
      2. Do you like how you feel in it?
      3. does it fit?
      4. Is it a different season?
        1. Go through and take out all the seasonal items that you haven’t worn and put in a box or a bag for another 30-60 days. Reevaluate again…ask the questions again. Donate if anything is questionable.
        2. Do this again at the start of a new season if you live in a place with dramatic seasonal changes☺
  5. Declutter before you organize—start in a space with the most bang for your buck
    1. Closet
    2. Bathroom
    3. Kitchen
      1. Make 3 piles (trash, keep and donate) (LINK 5 easy steps to decluttering)
      2. Then work your way to other rooms.
      3. Use boxes you already have to organize things
